Home garden – steady as she goes

Garden at 6 weeks from June 15 2012

The garden includes veggies, flowers and herbs grown from seed and purchased as plants from the Farmers Market.

Mid-June, I was just the keeper: watering, pulling a few weeds, and watching the vining plants begin to wind themselves up the strings, playfully reaching out to each other, racing to see who would make it to the top, first.

Mel’s Mix has proved to hold water nicely and keeps the weeds to a minimum. If I have a handful of weeds after perusing all four beds, it’s unusual.

I’ve included a slideshow with tidbits of extra info on several of my plants. Have fun!

I’d love to hear about your garden endeavors, too! Feel free to comment with pros, cons, triumphs and Epic Failures. I’ve been there – trust me.

I seem to have crossed a hurdle this year. I have been a chronic over waterer in the past and am reforming. Strangely enough, my plants are living through what looked like being totally deprived of water in years past. Always interesting when a big lesson FINALLY sinks in.

Congratulations! No more pale yellow, spindleys, hmm? 😉

I have been victim of Various Gardening Woes, myself – blossom end rot (tomatoes), Chronic Underwatering (sounds like a sport!), Black Spot(!), spider mites (sigh), and Powdery Mildew, among them. Maybe we should start a group.

Not being a Dedicated Gardener, I just bumble through, and the plants usually sort themselves out.
